Perhaps best known for his X rated erotic photography the legendary photographer Mapplethorpe also turned his lens to flora.. with perhaps no less erotiscm. Pistils is perhaps the best example of this blurred line. The skilfully crafted 'portraits' of flowers are curated into the one of the most important books in photographic history. It is said that Mapplethorpe used flowers to 'cleanse his palette' in the afternoon before moving to his more heavily erotic imagery he tended to capture in the evenings.
